Αποδεκτό έγινε το αίτημα για αναβολή της εξέτασης των αιτημάτων πολιτικού ασύλου που υπέβαλαν οι οκτώ Τούρκοι στρατιωτικοί που κατέφυγαν στην Ελλάδα μετά την απόπειρα πραξικοπήματος στη γείτονα χώρα.

Όπως αναφέρεται σε δημοσίευμα του «Έθνους», οι «8» ζήτησαν την αναβολή μέχρι να ομαλοποιηθεί η κατάσταση στην Τουρκία. Οι συνεντεύξεις θα αρχίσουν με τους πρώτους δύο στις 19 Αυγούστου και τους υπόλοιπους στις 23, 24 και 25 Αυγούστου.

Σύμφωνα με την «Καθημερινή», οι στρατιωτικοί υποστηρίζουν ότι σε περίπτωση έκδοσής τους δεν θα τύχουν δίκαιης δίκης, καθώς έχουν ήδη κριθεί ένοχοι και ότι εάν επιστραφούν, ο θάνατός τους «θα είναι βέβαιος».
