This picture provided by Greece's Culture Ministry on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014 shows the broken marble head of one of the two sphinx statues that decorated the entrance of a large ancient tomb under excavation at Amphipolis, in northern Greece. The ministry said the head was discovered in the third and deepest chamber of the late 4th century B.C. tomb, which archaeologists claim is unplundered. Although not all of the tomb has yet been dug, so far workers have uncovered the two headless sphinxes, a pair of larger-than-life-sized female statues and an ornate mosaic floor depicting the abduction of the ancient goddess Persephone. No burial has been found yet and it is unclear who the tomb was built for, with most archaeologists proposing a senior official in the entourage of the ancient Greek warrior-king Alexander the Great.
