Ένοπλοι άντρες με διασυνδέσεις με μουσουλμάνους αντάρτες επιτέθηκαν σε μια φυλακή νωρίς σήμερα στο νότιο τμήμα των Φιλιππινών, σκοτώνοντας έναν φύλακα και απελευθερώνοντας πάνω από 150 κρατούμενους, ανακοίνωσε η αστυνομία.

Η νοτιοανατολική ασιατική χώρα έχει πληγεί επί δεκαετίες από εξεγέρσεις των μουσουλμάνων ανταρτών στις νότιες νήσους της, με τον πρόεδρο Ροντρίγκο Ντουτέρτε να προσπαθεί να προωθήσει την ειρήνη γενικότερα στη χώρα με πληθυσμό κυρίως καθολικών.

Οι ένοπλοι άνοιξαν πυρ σε φύλακες στη φυλακή της βόρειας περιφέρειας Κοταμπάτο, στην πόλη Κινταπαουάν, περίπου στις 1:00 π.μ. τοπικής ώρας σήμερα (7:00 μ.μ. χθες, ώρα Ελλάδας), σύμφωνα με δηλώσεις του δεσμοφύλακα Πίτερ Μπόνγκατ σε τοπικό ραδιοφωνικό σταθμό. Από τους 1.511 φυλακισμένους, 158 κατάφεραν να δραπετεύσουν και 4 επανασυνελήφθηκαν, είπε.

"Ήταν καλά οργανωμένο. Οι δραπέτες χρησιμοποίησαν κουβέρτες για την διαφυγή τους. (...) Έχουμε εξαπολύσει κυνηγητό", είπε ο Μπόνγκατ.

Πρόσθεσε ότι, σύμφωνα με αρχικές πληροφορίες, ο αρχηγός των ανταρτών ανήκει στο Ισλαμικό Απελευθερωτικό Μέτωπο Μόρο.

Το 2014, η κυβέρνηση υπέγραψε συμφωνία ειρήνης με το Μέτωπο, τη μεγαλύτερη ομάδα μουσουλμάνων ανταρτών, αλλά οι συγκρούσεις με μικρότερες ομάδες συνεχίζονται.
