Στους 2.223 ανέρχονται οι πρόσφυγες και μετανάστες που κατέφθασαν στην Ελλάδα μέσω θάλασσας από τις αρχές του 2017, σύμφωνα με στοιχεία του Διεθνούς Οργανισμού Μετανάστευσης (ΔΟΜ).

Όπως σημειώνεται στο σχετικό δελτίο Τύπου, την αντίστοιχη περίοδο πέρσι οι αφίξεις στη χώρα είχαν φτάσει τις 97.325.

Σύμφωνα με τον ΔΟΜ, από τους 2.223 πρόσφυγες και μετανάστες το 42% είναι άντρες, το 21 % γυναίκες και το 37% παιδιά.

Συνολικά στην Ευρώπη, από την αρχή του 2017 έχουν φτάσει 13.924 πρόσφυγες και μετανάστες εκ των οποίων οι 10.701 στην Ιταλία και οι 1.000 στην Ισπανία, ενώ μέχρι και τις 22 Φεβρουαρίου έχουν καταγραφεί 366 θάνατοι. Η πλειονότητα (326) αυτών σημειώθηκε στην κεντρική δίοδο της Μεσογείου που οδηγεί στην Ιταλία. Σύμφωνα με το http://missingmigrants.iom.int/, την αντίστοιχη περίοδο του 2016, είχαν χάσει τη ζωή τους 425 άτομα.
