Το Κογκρέσο των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών έχει χάσει πια την αξιοπιστία του και δεν μπορεί να παραμείνει το μόνο σώμα που θα ευθύνεται για την διερεύνηση των φερόμενων επαφών του προέδρου Ντόναλντ Τραμπ με τη Ρωσία, είπε σε συνέντευξη ο ρεπουμπλικανός γερουσιαστής Τζον Μακέιν την Τετάρτη.

«Πιστεύω πως αυτό το μπρος-πίσω και αυτό που έχουν ανακαλύψει οι Αμερικανοί έως τώρα (δείχνει) ότι το Κογκρέσο δεν έχει πια την αξιοπιστία να χειριστεί αυτό (την έρευνα σχετικά με τη Ρωσία) μόνο του» είπε ο Μακέιν στο κανάλι MSNBC σε συνέντευξη που μεταδόθηκε χθες.

Νωρίτερα την ίδια μέρα, ο πρόεδρος της Επιτροπής Πληροφοριών της Βουλής των Αντιπροσώπων Ντέβιν Νούνες είπε σε δημοσιογράφους ότι ο Τραμπ και η ομάδα μετάβασής του στην προεδρία είχαν παρακολουθηθεί από τις αμερικανικές μυστικές υπηρεσίες. Μετά την ανακοίνωση, ενημέρωσε τον πρόεδρο για τα πρόσφατα ευρήματα περί παρακολούθησης ξένων συνομιλιών οι οποίες κατέγραψαν παρεμπιπτόντως και συνομιλίες Αμερικανών πολιτών.

Οι πράξεις του Νούνες επέφεραν δριμεία κριτική από συνεργάτες του και από τους δημοκρατικούς. Ο Άνταμ Σιφ, πρεσβύτερο μέλος της επιτροπής, είπε ότι η συμπεριφορά του Νούνες ήγειρε σοβαρές ανησυχίες για την ικανότητα της επιτροπής να διερευνήσει τις σχέσεις του Τραμπ με τη Ρωσία.

Ο Μακέιν χαρακτήρισε τις διαφορές μέσα στη Βουλή ως «αλλόκοτη κατάσταση» και επανέλαβε το αίτημά του να συσταθεί εξεταστική επιτροπή που θα διερευνήσει το θέμα των σχέσεων του Τραμπ με τη Ρωσία.
