Στην επίλυση του Κυπριακού πριν από την ολοκλήρωση της θητείας του, στο τέλος του έτους, ελπίζει ο γενικός γραμματέας των Ηνωμένων Εθνών Μπαν Κι- Μουν.

Σύμφωνα με το ΡΙΚ, σε αποκλειστική συνέντευξη στην ανταποκρίτρια του Associated Press στην έδρα του διεθνούς οργανισμού, γενικός γραμματέας του ΟΗΕ αναφέρει ότι οι συνομιλίες μεταξύ των ηγετών των Ελληνοκυπρίων και των Τουρκοκυπρίων, υπό την αιγίδα των Ηνωμένων Εθνών, «προχωρούν ομαλά και καλά».

Εκτιμά επίσης ότι «μια από τις μακροχρόνιες κρίσεις στον κόσμο», όπως χαρακτηρίζει το Κυπριακό, «πλησιάζει στην επίλυσή του».

Με αφορμή τις εξελίξεις στην κορεατική χερσόνησο, ο Νοτιοκορεάτης επικεφαλής του διεθνούς οργανισμού σημειώνει ότι έχει ξοδέψει πολύ χρόνο και ενέργεια για την επανένωση της Κύπρου, της μόνης άλλης μοιρασμένης χώρας, πλην της ιδιαίτερης πατρίδας του.
