The computer-controlled manikins produce heartbeats, bowel sounds and blood-pressure readings to simulate various conditions.Through our virtual center, doctors gain crucial experience dealing with high-risk conditions in a training environment that does not compromise patient safety. Previously, these skills were taught at the bedside as they occurred.The 9,000-square-foot Virtual Education and Simulation Training Center is equipped with a trauma bay, an intensive-care unit, an operating room and standardized patient rooms, a working laparoscopy station with simulated tissues, an endoscopy/bronchoscopy simulator, 3-D visualization software and display, and more than 100 task trainers. Our virtual hospital earned three-year accreditation as a Level II Education Institute from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) â the first accredited Level II Institute in the world and the only accredited center in Delaware. Since its opening, the virtual hospital has so far provided more than 500 simulations, clocking 800 hours of training time for more than 3,000 attending physicians, residents, fellows, nurses, respiratory therapists, allied-health practitioners and medical, nursing and allied-health students. Today, postgraduate training programs, credentialing committees and licensing and specialty boards are all placing greater emphasis on using simulation modalities to train health care providers.

Αντιμέτωπος με τον κίνδυνο να διαγραφεί και να μην μπορεί να ασκήσει τη δουλειά του βρίσκεται ένας γιατρός στην Βρετανία, επειδή σύναψε σχέσεις με δύο ασθενείς του, τις οποίες στη συνέχεια παντρεύτηκε.

Ο Δρ Σάιμον Χολμς παντρεύτηκε την πρώτη γυναίκα ενώ της παρείχε θεραπεία για την κατάθλιψη από την οποία έπασχε. Όταν ο γάμος αυτός τελείωσε και μάλιστα με ένα πικρό διαζύγιο, ο Χόλμς άρχισε να βλέπει μία άλλη ασθενή την οποία επίσης παντρεύτηκε.

Ο ίδιος έχει αποδεκτή ότι παραβίασε τους κανόνες δεοντολογίας που περιέχει το επάγγελμα ενός γιατρού. Ωστόσο ο ίδιος επιμένει πως οι σχέσεις μεταξύ γιατρού και ασθενή παραμένουν «γκρίζα» περιοχή.

Όπως μεταδίδει η Daily Mail, o Χόλμς εμφανίστηκε στην Ιατρική Δικαστική Υπηρεσία, όπου οι δικηγόροι του Γενικού Ιατρικού Συμβουλίου του είπαν ότι «απέτυχε να διατηρήσει τα επαγγελματικά όρια με τους ασθενείς του».

Όλα ξεκίνησαν το 1997 όταν ο η σύντροφός του διαγνώστηκε με ανίατη ασθένεια στον εγκέφαλο. Τότε ήταν που ήρθε πιο κοντά με την πρώτη από τις δύο ασθενείς στην οποία άρχισε να εκμυστηρεύεται πράγματα για τη σχέση του.

«Ένιωσα ότι ήταν έτοιμος να με φιλήσει» περιγράφει μία από τις δύο ασθενείς του στο Δικαστήριο. «Ήμουν τόσο συγκλονισμένη που πήγα σπίτι και τηλεφώνησα στην αδερφή μου. Ένιωσα και αποδείχτηκε ότι είχα δίκιο, πως αν η Άντζι πέθαινε θα ήταν μαζί μου λίγες μέρες μετά το θάνατό της», ανέφερε.

Η ίδια μάλιστα παραδέχτηκε ότι ήταν αρκετά ευάλωτη όταν τη πλησίασε ο γιατρός. Το ζευγάρι τελικά παντρεύτηκε αλλά ο γάμος τους άρχισε να καταστρέφεται το 2012 όταν ο Δρ Σάιμον ξεκίνησε τη σχέση του με μια δεύτερη γυναίκα.
