Η Ελλάδα δεν θα έπρεπε να προβεί σε περικοπές στις αμυντικές της δαπάνες, και έχει σημαντικό ρόλο στη νότια Ευρώπη ως μέλος του ΝΑΤΟ, δήλωσε ο γγ της Συμμαχίας, Γιενς Στόλτενμπεργκ, σε γερμανικό τηλεοπτικό σταθμό την Τρίτη.

Όπως αναφέρει το Reuters, ερωτηθείς για το αν η Ελλάδα θα παραμείνει μέλος του ΝΑΤΟ εάν βρεθεί εκτός Ευρωζώνης, ο Στόλτενμπεργκ, όπως αναφέρει το ZDF, δήλωσε ότι «η ελληνική κυβέρνηση πάντα τόνιζε ότι επιθυμεί να παραμένει αξιόπιστο μέλος του ΝΑΤΟ».

Ο Στόλτενμπεργκ σημείωσε ότι αναμένει η Ελλάδα να συνεχίσει να δαπανά το 2% του ΑΕΠ της στην άμυνα, συμπληρώνοντας ότι κανένα μέλος της κυβέρνησης δεν έχει συνδέσει την οικονομική κρίση με τη συμμετοχή στο ΝΑΤΟ.
