Αναχώρησε την Τρίτη στις 7:50 το πρωί από το λιμάνι της Κω με 1.700 πρόσφυγες από τη Συρία το επιβατηγό οχηματαγωγό πλοίο "Ελευθέριος Βενιζέλος" με προορισμό το λιμάνι της Θεσσαλονίκης. Το πλοίο θα έχει ενδιάμεσους σταθμούς την Κάλυμνο και τη Λέρο από όπου θα παραλάβει και άλλους μετανάστες.

Να σημειωθεί ότι από τη Δευτέρα το πρωί τα εμπλεκόμενα υπουργεία για το μεταναστευτικό είχαν ζητήσει διευκολύνσεις από το υπουργείο Ναυτιλίας προκειμένου το επιβατηγό οχηματαγωγό πλοίο "Ελευθέριος Βενιζέλος" να μεταφέρει πρόσφυγες από τα νησιά ώστε να υπάρξει αποσυμφόρηση.

Πιθανότατα, αμέσως μετά την αποβίβαση των μεταναστών στη Θεσσαλονίκη, το πλοίο θα ανεφοδιαστεί και αναμένεται να ξεκινήσει νέο δρομολόγιο για την Κω και άλλα νησιά που αντιμετωπίζουν σχετικό πρόβλημα.
