Ο πρόεδρος της Γερμανίας Γιοακίμ Γκάουκ ανακοίνωσε ότι δεν θα είναι υποψήφιος για δεύτερη θητεία στις αρχές του 2017, δίνοντας ντε φάκτο την εκκίνηση για τη συζήτηση σχετικά με την ταυτότητα του πιθανού του διαδόχου.

«Θέλω να σας πληροφορήσω ότι αποφάσισα να μην είμαι υποψήφιος για δεύτερη φορά για το αξίωμα του προέδρου», δήλωσε ο πολύ δημοφιλής πρόεδρος της Γερμανίας προβάλλοντας το προχωρημένο της ηλικίας του.
