Δεκάδες ανώτεροι Τούρκοι στρατιωτικοί που εργάζονται στο ΝΑΤΟ έχουν υποβάλει αίτηση για άσυλο στη Γερμανία, όπως αναφέρει σε δημοσίευμά της η εφημερίδα Tagesschau. Στο άρθρο γίνεται λόγος για περίπου σαράντα άτομα, κυρίως ανώτερους αξιωματικούς.

Σύμφωνα με το δημοσίευμα η Ομοσπονδιακή Υπηρεσία Μετανάστευσης και Προσφύγων και το υπουργείο Εσωτερικών αναφέρουν ότι η υπόθεση θα πρέπει να αντιμετωπιστεί όπως και οι άλλες υποθέσεις ασύλου. «Δεν υπάρχει αμφιβολία ότι δεν μπορούμε να επιστρέψουμε στην Τουρκία αυτούς τους στρατιώτες. Θα πάνε κατευθείαν φυλακή», δηλώνει το στέλεχος του CSU, Στέφαν Μάγερ.

H εφημερίδα χαρακτηρίζει τεταμένη τη σχέση Γερμανίας-Τουρκίας του τελευταίους μήνες, τόσο λόγω του ψηφίσματος της Βουλής που χαρακτήρισε τη σφαγή των Αρμενίων στην Οθωμανική Αυτοκρατορία πριν από 100 χρόνια ως γενοκτονία, όσο και της πολιτικής του Ερντογάν, μετά το αποτυχημένο πραξικόπημα στην Τουρκία.
