The Titanic was a British registered four funnelled ocean liner built for the transatlantic passenger and mail service between Southampton and New York.Constructed at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland she was, at the time of her maiden voyage, the largest vessel afloat.On April 10th 1912 the Titanic set sail from Southampton with 2,200 passengers and crew, four days later the Titanic collided with an iceberg and sank. 1500 people died and 700 survived. This website attempts to tell their story and that of the great ship with which their fate would be inextricably linked.

Ένα χαμένο κομμάτι της ιστορίας του Τιτανικού εκτίθεται για πρώτη φορά μετά από ένα αιώνα στο κοινό σε γκαλερί της Γρανάδα στην Ισπανία.

Το κομμάτι δεν είναι άλλο από την πλακέτα που είχε παρουσιαστεί στον κατασκευαστή του πλοίου, Lord Williams James Pirríe, σε μια τελετή μετά την ολοκλήρωση του «αβύθιστου γίγαντα» τον Απρίλιο του 1912. Αυτή ήταν χαμένη για πάνω από 100 χρόνια, μέχρι που ένας Ισπανός την αγόρασε από ένα Βρετανό πριν 12 χρόνια, χωρίς να γνωρίζει πως πρόκειται πράγματι για αυθεντικό κομμάτι.

Η χάλκινη και ασημένια πλακέτα ζυγίζει 1,8 κιλά και αναγράφει πως ο Τιτανικός είναι «το μεγαλύτερο, νεώτερο και καλύτερο ατμόπλοιο στην θάλασσα», ενώ τον αποκαλεί «Βασίλισσα του ωκεανού». Διαθέτει μάλιστα μια εσωτερική λάμπα, η οποία ανάβει και αποκαλύπτει ένα σκίτσο του πλοίου.

Τώρα αποτελεί μέρος της έκθεσης «Titanic, the Reconstruction» στην Γρανάδα, όμως ο ιδιοκτήτης της δεν σκέφτεται να την πουλήσει.
