🇵🇱 PM Tusk is being ACCUSED of SENDING police to SEIZE the Constitutional Tribunal tonight, and the timing doesn’t help Reports say the timing looks deliberate, right before the weekend, and that Tusk is using force because the president blocked his judges. Also, it’s pointed out that the EU has not criticized the move, unlike the frequent rule-of-law complaints it raised against the previous PiS government. Writer: Lucas https://t.co/xoalEgPfYI

🇵🇱⚖️ Polish Constitutional Tribunal President Bogdan Święczkowski and supporters attempted to force entry into the tribunal building in Warsaw on Friday night after a rival judge ordered his suspension. Judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska, elected by the current Sejm, issued an order suspending Święczkowski and Vice-President Bartłomiej Sochański and claimed authority to lead the tribunal as its most senior judge. The tribunal’s existing leadership denounced the move as an illegal website takeover, stated that Korwin-Piotrowska is not a valid tribunal judge, and accused participants of a coup attempt. The dispute centers on whether certain judges properly took their oath before the president. Warsaw police deployed outside the building on Aleja Szucha after requests from Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek and from Korwin-Piotrowska citing risks to life, health, and public order. Officers operated in the external area. Protesters cut chains on the gate; Święczkowski briefly entered the grounds, was stopped by a police cordon, and withdrew while saying he would wait for President Karol Nawrocki. Three people were detained for trespassing after climbing the fence. President Nawrocki interrupted his trip to Senegal and is returning to Poland. Poland’s ambassador to China, Jakub Kumoch, resigned, stating that events in the country made it impossible for him to continue. The confrontation is the latest escalation in the long-running conflict over the legitimacy of the Constitutional Tribunal. The Tusk government frames its actions as restoring the rule of law; the opposition and Nawrocki describe them as an institutional power seizure. Competing claims of legal authority remain unresolved.
